Eight of the photos in the book were taken by members of the Pine Ridge Lakota Native American
Reservation Community.
- The Pine Ridge Reservation is two million acres, roughly the size of Connecticut. The reservation is home to approximately forty thousand Lakota.
- The reservation covers the poorest two counties in the nation with an average of 86 percent unemployment versus the 5.5 percent national average. Sixty-three percent live bellow the federal poverty level, and that number continues to rise.
- Pine Ridge’s boundaries include the site of Wounded Knee, the infamous massacre that basically ended effective Indian resistance is the late 1800s.
- Pine Ridge is also the site of the 1973 American Indian Movement Siege at Wounded Knee.
Zoeann Murphy: Regional Coordinator of unseenamerica will be at the event as well as photographers who are published in the book.

organization dedicated to educating the public about prisons, criminal justice issues, and the

There will be 400 immigrant graduates in attendance plus their families and friends. The graduates will be honored and Jaime Contreras, from SEIU local 82, will speak on behalf of the unseenamerica project. unseenamerica exhibit will feature images by the workers from local 82. Potluck with food from around the world will be served followed by a dance party.

- Hudson River Health Care Centers provides healthcare regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
- The class was transnational. One class took place in Poughkeepsie with Latino workers and another took place in Oaxaca Mexico with their families.
- Many of the workers could not ever return home to Oaxaca. So because of this project they got to see their families and homes via photographs.
